Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Satellite company commemorates 50th anniversary of the first U.S. satellite launch with information repository dedicated to telling satellite’s role in everyday life

  • SES AMERICOM today announced the debut of satellitewiki.com, a wiki devoted to the satellite industry.  The timing of the debut coincides with the 50th anniversary of the launch of Explorer 1, the first U.S. satellite.
  • Using the same style and software used to power Wikipedia, satellitewiki.com lets visitors explore the history of man-made satellites, definitions of satellite terms and learn about how satellites impact a wide range of industries from oil and gas to television.
  • Satellites have making news recently with many major airlines offering inflight broadband to their passengers. The maritime industry utilizes high-speed Internet connectivity delivered via satellite technology, enabling cruise ship passengers to make voice over Internet (VoIP) phone calls from ship to shore or check email from the middle of the ocean.
  • From the first U.S. satellite’s bleep in 1958 to modern satellites with their own neighborhoods, users exploring the wiki can find interesting facts, download imagery and discover how satellites work. With input from other users and readers, information can be updated, changed and added, as well.
  • Want to know the difference between ‘carrier frequency’ and “Geostationary transfer orbit”? Or when the best time to look up in the night sky to see a satellite buzzing your neighborhood? Log on at http://satellitewiki.com.

“Many people don’t realize the important role the satellites play in our everyday life. People encounter satellite technology in places that are often unexpected. For instance, very often when a person pays for gas at the pump, that transaction is handled over a satellite network. Today satellites from SES Americom deliver high speed connectivity to jet aircraft, ships at sea and moving vehicles. When you cannot connect using wires and there are no cell towers available, what else but satellite can provide a reliable, ubiquitous connection?”

Advansys Releases New Version of Popular Archive To Go at GWAVACon

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

GWAVACon, San Diego, Calif. — January 29, 2008 — Advansys has announced a new version of its best-selling Archive To Go for GroupWise.

The “on-demand” user-driven product provides a reliable and easy way for administrators to export a GroupWise mailbox and personal archives to a searchable portable format which doesn’t require the GroupWise Client. Common uses include making the primary mailbox and GroupWise personal archives portable, backing up inactive accounts and private data removal to reduce storage costs and legal discovery.

Version 1.5 adds even more control over archiving capabilities than the previous version, such as date range and private item filtering, folder selection, custom archive naming improved user interface and enterprise access features.

“Exporting GroupWise data for archiving purposes is a no-brainer with Advansys Archive To Go. It’s the default standalone archiving tool for us,” said Roel van Bueren, CEO of ROVABU Networks and Custom-R-Tools. “Archive To Go is the premiere archiving tool for the GroupWise space.”

These new features make it easy to create and distribute specialized, searchable knowledge bases from a collection of GroupWise messages, such as the GroupWise Resource Archive, which comprises many years worth of searchable NGWList digest messages (http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tip/16569.html).

“What makes Archive To Go 1.5 different from our competition is that instead of another full-time archiving product, it offers a high-quality on-demand publishing/archiving solution,” said Gregory Bell, CEO, Advansys. “Administrators often use the enterprise mode but it can also be rolled out to users for creating their own archives.”

Archive To Go also integrates with key GWAVA products, such as Reload, Reveal, Redline and Vertigo.

Advansys plans on releasing further Archive To Go extensions, which offer the ability to restore Advansys Portable Messages back into GroupWise and conversion to HTML and Microsoft Outlook PST formats. Advansys will deliver the premiere demonstration the Microsoft Outlook PST converter at GWAVACon San Diego.

GroupWise Integration for SugarCRM, Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Salesforce at GWAVACon 2008

Monday, January 28th, 2008

GWAVACon, SAN DIEGO, Calif. – January 28, 2008 – Omni Technology Solutions Inc. (Omni) has announced immediate availability of the public beta of Riva CRM Integration for GroupWise - Desktop Edition. Interested parties are invited to register on-line at www.omni-ts.com to participate in the public beta.

“Omni is excited to announce the public beta of Riva CRM Integration for GroupWise - Desktop Edition,” said Aldo Zanoni, CEO and Managing Director of Omni. “Companies need to be able to deliver agile business information to their key employees. Riva CRM Integration for GroupWise integrates GroupWise into the heartbeat of a business - its CRM.”

Riva CRM for GroupWise - Desktop Edition provides transparent synchronization between GroupWise and SugarCRM (Community Edition, Professional Edition and Enterprise Edition), Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Salesforce CRM. Riva delivers bi-directional synchronization of accounts, contacts, appointments, tasks, notes and phones calls. CRM quotes and opportunity summaries are also available in GroupWise.

“What customers appreciate most about Riva,” continued Zanoni, “is that the synchronization process is transparent to the end user. Riva extends the value of GroupWise and the CRM investment because the synchronized information is available from all GroupWise clients: Linux, Macintosh, Windows, WebAccess, BlackBerry devices and GroupWise Mobile Server mobile devices. By extending CRM information to all GroupWise clients, employees are “CRM information-connected” all the time. Employees can work in GroupWise or the CRM and don’t have to worry about having to copy and paste information from one to the other. A phone number change in the GroupWise address book is updated in the CRM. A task that gets marked as completed on a BlackBerry gets marked as completed in the CRM.”

“What got us excited about Omni’s CRM Integration for GroupWise is the fact that it’s transparent. All critical CRM information is available to us whether we are working in GroupWise on Linux, Windows, Macintosh, WebAccess or on our BlackBerry and GroupWise Mobile Server devices,” said Brian Ogden from Switchdesk. “Having CRM information available on our mobile devices without having to install any special software on them is a tremendous benefit to our sales and management staff. As a Linux shop, we look forward to the next release of Riva so our customers can run Riva Desktop Edition on Linux desktops. Our company believes Riva CRM integration will revolutionize how we and our GroupWise customers do business.”

Riva CRM Integration for GroupWise version 1.3 will include provide transparent email integration between the CRM and GroupWise. Emails sent from SugarCRM, Microsoft Dynamics CRM or Salesforce will be available as Sent Items in user GroupWise accounts and vice versa.

Riva CRM Integration for GroupWise is part of the larger Riva platform that allows virtually all third-party applications to integrate with GroupWise.

Monday, January 28th, 2008

GWAVACon, San Diego, Calif. — January 28, 2008 —Advansys has announced Filing Assistant 1.0 for GroupWise, a tool that lets users file and access their emails quickly and easily.

Users can search and navigate folder locations to access key message information more efficiently, assisted by intuitive technology that suggests where a message should be filed.

Messages can also be identified and associated with target folders.

Users have complete control over the final confirmation of where the message should be filed. This speeds up filing and keeps users in control of accuracy, resulting in quicker information retrieval in the future.

Users can also locate folders by matching text or simply by selecting a folder offered by the automated suggest feature, which lists suggested folders for filing based on selected message analysis.

“Filing Assistant enables our company to file emails into folders in a consistent manner, which improves the natural process of retrieving emails without having to perform a search and interrupt the thought process,” said Robert Diaz, CEO, RDA Enterprises. “It extends GroupWise seamlessly and immediately establishes a better process for managing email workflow. Its intuitive design also makes it effortless to keep company email well organized.”

Filing Assistant also works with GroupWise Proxy, allowing users with the appropriate proxy rights to file another person’s email.
“Combining GroupWise list filtering and QuickFinder with Filing Assistant offers even faster reorganization and collation of messages which may be dispersed throughout the account,” said Bell.

A range of additional features let users customize Filing Assistant operation, such as search optimization by adding special keywords to folder descriptions, creating new and renaming existing folders, folder reporting and undo last message move.

System Requirements
Advansys Filing Assistant 1.0 requires Novell GroupWise 32-bit Windows Client, Version 6.0.4 or later; Advansys Formativ Runtime; Creator, Studio 2.0.1 or later, and Adobe Acrobat Reader to access product documentation.

Free Talkster International and Group Conference Calls Just One Click Away with New iPhone Firmware Update

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Talkster’s iPhone-optimized service is now even easier to use with recent enhancements that let callers place the Talkster service icon on the main screen of their phones.

Now iPhone users have an even easier way to make free international, long-distance and group conference calls. With just a single click of an icon from the iPhone’s main screen, you can launch the Talkster service and begin making free calls to friends and family around the world. As always, once you’ve created a Talkster number for a friend or group of friends and saved it in your address book, you need only select them directly from your phone book to place the call.

Follow these easy steps to place the Talkster icon on your iPhone’s main screen:

Step One:
Connect your iPhone to iTunes and update the phone’s firmware to version 1.1.3 (or later).

Step Two:
Open the Safari web browser and surf to http://i.talkster.com.

Step Three:
Click on the new “+” symbol at the bottom of the screen. Once you do, you’ll be presented with three options:

  • Add Bookmark
  • Add to Home Screen
  • Mail Link to this Page

Step Four:
Click on “Add to Home Screen.” You’ll be shown the new Talkster iPhone icon and be able to give it a title (such as “Talkster”) to add to your iPhone’s main screen.

The new 1.1.3 firmware also lets you move the icon around the screen to place it in an order you like. You can find instructions on how to rearrange icons and use more of the new features now available for the iPhone by clicking here and here.

Step Five:
You can repeat steps two and three, but this time select “Mail Link to this Page” to share Talkster with your friends!

iPhone conference calls with Talkster
With traditional iPhone conference calling, the process can be tedious, increasing minute usage and frustration. Conference calls also require iPhone users to pay even higher costs for an international and long-distance connection. With Talkster, users can create a group of up to 5 people, generating a local number each participant in the call. This process is one-time only, and with the new Talkster icon for the iPhone, an easy way to keep in touch.

Ads foot the bill for free calls
Calls with Talkster are free because the service is ad-supported, meaning all calls are subsidized by advertising, much like television and radio. In order to access free long-distance, international, and group conference calling, users listen to a 10-second ad and then are free to talk as long as they like with no talk time limits.

Sign up now

Talkster has several sign-up options for users:

  1. Visit www.Talkster.com from your computer
  2. Visit http://free.talkster.com from any mobile phone browser, or
  3. Visit Talkster’s iPhone optimized site at http://i.talkster.com
  4. Add Talkster’s Free World Dialing Application on social networking site, Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=5439812969&ref=s
