The Fast Gets Faster: jqMobi Turbocharges HTML5 Mobile App Development with appStarter

Improved jqMobi version 1.1 beta also released

jqMobi (www.jqmobi.com) today announced major enhancements to its high performance jQuery-compatible mobile app development framework. Now in beta version 1.1, jqMobi is the first open source JavaScript framework developed solely for use on mobile devices, highly optimized to deliver a “native app” user experience on both iOS and Android devices.

Using jqMobi’s new appStarter feature, developers can create complete frameworks for mobile apps in just minutes by selecting screen layouts, color schemes and header and footers navigation schemes from an interactive quick start wizard. When the basic design is complete, appStarter creates the necessary JavaScript and jqMobi code for screens, transitions, carousels, scrolling lists, menus, etc. All that’s left for the developer to do is complete each page’s content and logic.

With appStarter, a jqMobi developer can easily create a full featured, multi-page HTML5 app in minutes. A short demonstration video of appStarter is available at http://youtu.be/qQi9JTxADC4. appStarter is offered as a free service and developers can sign up at http://www.jqmobi.com/index.php?appstarter.

jqMobi version 1.1 adds numerous performance and user experience enhancements, including native scrolling in iOS, optimized long list scrolling and built-in memory cleanup for plugins. In 1.1, objects can now register jqMobi events, previously only available to DOM nodes.

The new version contains improvements to existing plugins like css3Animate and carousel. A new touchLayer plugin provides a delay-free touch input that works identically on iOS and Android. A new repository has been created to house jqMobi plugins, making it easier for developers to pick and choose needed functionality when they are building apps.

jqMobi 1.1 continues jqMobi’s reign as the industry’s best performing mobile HTML5 framework. Beta tester Gareth Elms, an ASP.NET and HTML5 developer from Manchester, UK said “jqMobi 1.0 was fast. I’m just testing the 1.1 beta and it’s even faster! Page transitions give a native experience even on iPod 3rd gen.”

About jqMobi

jqMobi is the first JavaScript framework developed solely for use on mobile devices, and it is optimized for touch based interface and smaller screen sizes. It is significantly smaller and faster than other frameworks, such as Sencha Touch and jQuery, that were originally developed for desktop web. jqMobi was open sourced in February 2012, and is being used in tens of thousands of mobile web apps and hybrid apps around the world. While most JavaScript app frameworks deliver a good user experience on iOS devices, many have difficulties with the highly fragmented Android platform. jqMobi offers developers a solid framework that delivers equivalent user experiences on both iOS and Android platforms.
