SAN FRANCISCO, California – MobilityWire® – October 8, 2010

Streaming radio service Soundtrckr today launched its new iPhone and iPod Touch app and website. Drawing on a fully licensed catalog of more than 8 million songs, Soundtrckr uses social networking and location-awareness to provide listeners with innovative ways to create, discover and share personal radio stations, play music with friends in real time, and search their neighborhoods for popular music and people with similar tastes. Available in the US, UK and Canada, Soundtrckr is currently the only Internet radio service to have expanded its offering beyond the United States.

Soundtrckr hopes to entice streaming radio listeners who are frustrated by the limited catalogs and impersonal recommendation algorithms of traditional Internet radio services.

“We want to give people a place to find music that they can’t find anywhere else,” said founder and CEO Daniele Calabrese. “At the same time, we want to put music discovery back into the hands of real people, using music as a way to engage more deeply with their friends and communities.”

Soundtrckr accomplishes this by focusing on the social and geographic aspects of music discovery. Every time a Soundtrckr user creates a new station, the creator’s location is logged in the Soundtrckr database and the station becomes accessible to other listeners through Soundtrckr’s “Nearby Music” feature. It’s a way to tune into the unique aesthetic of cities and neighborhoods, a reconnection of digital media to physical space. This functionality is further enhanced by the ability to tune into other users in real time – a listener in San Francisco can tune into a listener in New York and both will hear the same songs simultaneously, with the option to discuss what they’re listening to through an integrated chat feature.

Soundtrckr is currently available on the web and from the iTunes App Store. Applications for the Nokia N8 and Windows Phone 7 will be released later this fall.
