K-Touch MobileBitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS) today announced that K-Touch Mobile Indonesia, manufacturer of some of the most popular mobile phones in Indonesia, has licensed distribution rights for BOLTTM, the company’s Web browser for mobile phones of all types. Under this agreement, K-Touch will preload BOLT as the default browser on new handsets for the Indonesian market. K-Touch Mobile Indonesia is a subsidiary of K-Touch Mobile China, the top domestic-brand handset vendor in China.

“Handset manufacturers like K-Touch are making high quality mobile Internet capabilities a top priority,” said Anna Chagnon, president and CEO of Bitstream. “K-Touch is recognized for its high quality devices and believes as Bitstream does that quality must extend to the Internet experience. Through our partnership and shared vision, K-Touch and Bitstream will deliver the features and functionality desired by the Indonesian mobile market where people use mobile as the primary platform for connecting to the Internet.”

With more than 140 million mobile subscribers, Indonesia is the third largest mobile market in Asia behind China and India, and the country with the sixth most mobile subscribers in the world. Mobile browsing is extremely popular in Indonesia with approximately 90 percent of Indonesian Internet users accessing the Web on their mobile phones, compared to just 10 percent surfing on desktop computers. After BOLT’s eight-month public beta test period which saw more than 2 million downloads and well over 200 million Web pages rendered, Indonesia emerged as BOLT’s largest market outside of North America, with more than one in seven BOLT users residing in Indonesia.

K-Touch H888 mobile phoneThe first K-Touch handset to come preloaded with BOLT is the new H888, an entry-level phone with a QWERTY keyboard and a focus on chat and browsing. Recently selected as one of China’s 10 best mobile phone brands by the Mobile Phone Golden Awards, K-Touch considers quality of paramount importance. To round out a device that features built-in shortcuts to major social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, instant messaging via Yahoo Messenger, GTalk and Windows Live Messenger, K-Touch wanted H888 users to have the best possible mobile browser.

“K-Touch found BOLT to be the fastest mobile browser among those we tested, with better page rendering and more features than other comparable browsers such as Opera Mini,” said Rubi Sutanto, product manager at K-Touch Mobile Indonesia. “Bitstream is providing K-Touch with the fastest route to the best mobile Web experience. BOLT is simple to integrate with our handsets, making it easy for K-Touch to deliver our Indonesian customers the real Web on even our lower-end devices.”

With the inclusion of BOLT, K-Touch’s handsets will now offer browsing with the fastest page load speeds, most accurate desktop-style page rendering, and most highly-optimized data conservation currently available. Additionally, BOLT will enable K-Touch’s handsets to support streaming video from top video-sharing sites such as YouTube, MySpace and Google, something no other feature phone browser can offer.

BOLT’s Unique Capabilities Include:

  • Fastest browser on the market
  • Displays full websites just as they would appear on desktop computers
  • Streams videos from popular video services such as YouTube
  • Copy and paste text
  • Uploads video and photo files directly to websites from browser
