Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS) is a leading developer of software that meets the challenging and ever-changing needs of mobile operators, device manufacturers, mobile application developers and consumers worldwide. This session is part of the JavaME, Mobile and Embedded track at the JavaOne two-day conference.

JavaOne 2011 in India will feature technical content and hands-on learning focused specifically on Java and next-generation development trends and technologies. These next-gen development technologies include rich enterprise applications (REAs), service-oriented architecture (SOA) and the database.

“Java Platform, Micro Edition and BOLT: Unlock the Value of Web Browsing” session description:

“While Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) is one of the largest platforms used on mobile devices, getting feature-rich user experiences on even the most basic feature phone can prove challenging. This session will focus on how Bitstream’s BOLT browser integrates cloud-based technologies with Java technology on devices to offer end users a rewarding user experience. BOLT provides a smartphone-like browsing experience on feature phones, offering PC-style page rendering, widgets, streaming video, and social networking functionality, and advanced features such as tabbed browsing, to the nearly 1 billion internet-enabled Java phones. BOLT has been installed by more than 20 million users worldwide, demonstrating the popularity of Java-enabled phones.”

This cloud-computing architecture is available to service providers as the BOLT SDK, which can be used to build robust Web applications delivered through their own custom user interfaces. The BOLT SDK, which supports Web apps written in HTML5, JavaScript and other Web programming languages, is completely customizable and depending on the required application capabilities, can be configured in terms of package size and memory usage. Wireless operators, handset manufacturers and service providers should contact boltsales@bitstream.com to learn more about the BOLT SDK.

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – MobilityWire® – December 21, 2010

Nominations are now being accepted for the Most Underrated Mobile App of 2010 awards. Mobile application developers can submit their applications – free of charge – through January 31 to earn the recognition for their overlooked but award-worthy apps.

The award is sponsored by PR4apps™ (www.pr4apps.com), offering public relations tailored specifically to support mobile applications. Applications will be judged by a group of mobile industry celebrities and judging will commence promptly on February 1, 2011, so developers are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible for early consideration.

“2010 may go down in history as the year of the mobile app,” said Melissa Burns, principal of Mobility PR. “But, not every good app developed this year has had its 15 minutes of fame. The underrated app award program specifically seeks out those apps that are underrated and overlooked with the goal of giving them the attention they deserve.”

The awards are free to enter and the call for entries closes on January 31, 2010 at midnight PDT. Entries are accepted online at http://www.pr4apps.com/underrated/. Among the qualifications required to submit include:

The app must have averaged fewer than 100 downloads per day (a rate less than 36,500 total downloads for all of 2010).

Apps must be free or sell for less than $10 per download.

Apps must have launched in a public app store between January 1, 2010 and September 30, 2010, and must be currently available for download.

Visit http://www.pr4apps.com/underrated/rules/ for the complete list of rules and qualifications.

A panel of expert mobile industry judges, including Sarah Perez of ReadWriteWeb, Rob Woodbridge of Untether.tv and Simon Sage of IntoMobile.com, will select a single app to crown as the Most Underrated App of 2010. Additional celebrity judges will be announced on an ongoing basis. Finalists and the ultimate winner will be announced in February 2011. Both finalists and the winner will receive award logos to help promote their apps, and the winning app will receive a PR services package valued at over $2,000 to help it find its audience in 2011.

This award program specifically seeks out those apps that are underrated and overlooked.
BOLT 2.3 now available to OEMs and MNOs looking to offer sacrifice-free browsing for a rich Internet experience on the widest range of handsets

SAN FRANCISCO and MARLBOROUGH, Massachusetts – MobilityWire® – October 6, 2010

Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS) creators of the award winning BOLT™ mobile browser, today announced the release of BOLT 2.3, with a host of new features to transform mobile phones of all types into powerful Internet devices. BOLT 2.3 adds HTML5 audio streaming to complement the HTML5 video streaming added in BOLT 2.1, and also includes enhanced inline text editing, cloud-based backup of customer’s favorites and the addition of Ustream.tv to the long international list of popular Flash video sites supported by BOLT.

“With each new feature, from streaming audio and video support to cloud-based back-up, BOLT is delivering a better mobile Internet browsing experience without barriers, which translates directly to happier customers,” said Anna Magliocco-Chagnon, CEO of Bitstream. “BOLT’s advanced capabilities and customer-centric feature set, give handset manufacturers who deploy BOLT an edge when differentiating themselves from competitors and provides mobile network operators yet another way to compete for new users.”

HTML5 and Mobile Browsing on BOLT

Bitstream continues to lead in mobile open standards compliance by extending BOLT’s support for HTML5, the newest generation of the HTML language. Already the only WebKit-based cloud computing browser, BOLT is the first mobile browser to support HTML5 video and, with the release of BOLT 2.3, audio streaming. Some of the largest online content providers and Web technology companies such as Google and Apple are embracing the use of the HTML5 standard, eliminating the need for third party add-ons, plug-ins and separate media players that have often created obstacles for viewing and listening to streaming media via the mobile Web. BOLT’s support of HTML5 allows handset manufacturers and mobile network operators to offer streaming media on the growing number of website designed for new mobile computing platforms such as the Apple iPad and Google Android tablets on the widest range of mobile devices.

Most Fully Featured Mobile Browser, Gets Even Better

BOLT has earned a reputation as the most fully featured mobile browser available, and with the 2.3 release, BOLT boosts its already powerful mobile browsing capabilities:

Best Streaming Media Support – BOLT 2.3 now supports HTML5 streaming video and audio. BOLT offers the broadest support for streaming video in a mobile browser, with support for the most popular Flash based video sites and all HTML5 video sites.

New Advanced Desktop Features – Along with the ability to perfectly render Web pages as they were meant to be seen from a PC, BOLT also offers tabbed browsing, password manager, advanced downloading and uploading capabilities and now advanced inline text entry and editing allowing people to enter and edit text directly in Web page forms without opening up a separate text editing window.

Backed up in the Cloud – BOLT 2.3’s new favorites backup feature stores a user’s bookmarks on BOLT’s servers, allowing them to be restored if a user ever needs to change phones for any reason.

New Mobile Widgets – BOLT widgets let people using any mobile phone take part in the mobile apps revolution. Bolt 2.3′s widget gallery features weather, Wikipedia, and dictionary widgets, along with an improved Twitter widget and a brand new Facebook widget.

Seregon simplifies and greatly reduces the time and cost of building and deploying mobile enterprise applications across multiple platforms

OTTAWA and SAN FRANCISCO – MobilityWire® – October 6, 2010

Seregon Solutions Inc., a provider of Mobile Enterprise Application Platform software, today announced the widespread availability of DragonRAD™, a cross-platform mobile development tool that accelerates mobile application development and simplifies integration with back-office systems to deliver enterprise applications across any BlackBerry®, Android, or Windows Mobile™ device.

DragonRAD 4.0 is an evolution of SeregonMAP that allows enterprise application developers to connect to any database or Web service, build mobile applications quickly and easily in a visual drag and drop development environment, and deploy them to a wide array of mobile devices and operating systems. With DragonRAD, enterprise application developers build complex mobile applications in a fraction of the time of traditional development, and deploy them — royalty free — to an unlimited number of users.

CellTrak Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of integrated mobile solutions for home healthcare, turned to Seregon when a time-constrained opportunity arose to develop a complex application for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices. “CellTrak has more than 10,000 users of our industry leading mobile Home Heathcare solution”, said Steve Wegner, chief technology officer at CellTrak. “Using Seregon’s Mobile Application Platform (now called DragonRAD), we were able to rapidly create a prototype, and iteratively incorporate customer feedback until the application was complete. The Seregon Platform truly allows you to decrease cost, development time and risk in mobilizing enterprise applications.”

DragonRAD’s support for BlackBerry, Android, and Windows Mobile devices allows organizations to build and deliver their enterprise applications on multiple platforms with no added cost or effort, currently one of the largest obstacles preventing businesses from going mobile.

A Frost & Sullivan survey of 300 North American companies revealed that issues surrounding upfront costs continue to be cited as the key barrier to adoption for mobile enterprise applications. The cost to build custom mobile applications that integrate with current back-office systems has traditionally been unaffordable for most companies. DragonRAD helps to reduce this upfront cost with its rapid application development environment, ease of integration and synchronization of backend systems, and cross-platform support. Other features of the DragonRAD mobile development platform include:

Cross-platform support for BlackBerry, Android, and Windows Mobile devices

Easy-to-use drag and drop design environment

Seamless integration with all SQL databases and Web Services (using custom data connectors)

Native rapid application development

One-button publish for over-the-air application delivery

Powerful data triggers, event handlers, and push notification

DragonRAD is available as a free download from http://www.dragonrad.com/download. The Free version is fully featured and allows the development and testing of an unlimited number of applications but is limited to deployment to only two users. The unrestricted Enterprise version is available on an annual subscription at $4,900 per developer and allows the development of an unlimited number of applications and deployment to an unlimited number of users. More pricing information can be found at http://www.dragonrad.com/pricing.

Seregon is exhibiting at CTIA Enterprise & Applications™ being held in San Francisco October 5 to 8, and will be at booth #146.
