Kony Solutions, Inc., the mobile applications platform provider with Write Once, Run Everywhere technology, today announced that the Kony Mobile Application Platform™ now supports the Google Nexus One phone and all other predecessor phones that run on the Android mobile operating system including the Motorola Droid and HTC Hero.

Based on an open architecture, the Kony Mobile Application Platform generates native on-device applications and mobile websites for all major mobile device operating systems. This includes more than 8,000 phones across the most popular operating systems. Current mobile operating systems supported are as follows:

  • Google Android
  • RIM BlackBerry
  • Brew
  • Apple iPhone & iPod Touch
  • Java ME
  • Palm WebOS
  • Symbian S60
  • Windows Mobile

Recognizing the challenge of a fragmented and increasingly diverse mobile device marketplace, Kony Solutions developed an extensible, future-proof mobile applications platform that supports the constant emergence of new devices and operating systems. The Kony Solutions platform utilizes an embedded client library within its Kony Studio development environment, which executes an application development layer that is completely abstracted from the target mobile operating system. Support for a new device or mobile operating system simply requires development and updates to the corresponding client library.

“Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, the list continues to get longer and more complex as the mobile marketplace rapidly evolves. The challenge for every consumer facing organization is how to quickly provide their audience with multi-device mobile applications that deliver a high-value experience at an economical cost of ownership,” said Raj Koneru, founder and CEO of Kony Solutions. “At this rapid-fire pace of device development, it is crucial to utilize a mobile application platform that is designed to not only overcome this challenge, but actually take advantage of it. Our Write Once, Run Everywhere technology enables organizations to quickly offer and maintain their mobile applications running on the latest devices, making them truly future-proof.”

Polar Mobile Applications Now Used by 1 Million People around the World

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Company experiences explosive growth adding 500,000 new users in the last four months

Polar Mobile

Polar Mobile (www.polarmobile.com) today announced that applications built using the company’s SMARTTM content and advertising platform are now being used by more than 1 million people around the world. Media publishers are using the proprietary SMART push-publishing platform to launch custom-branded mobile applications so their readers can access content from their favorite brands much faster than browsing through traditional mobile websites. Since its debut applications for Rogers Media – Canada’s largest publisher – launched in February 2008, Polar Mobile has launched more than 50 applications for such major brands as TIME Magazine, BusinessWeek, CNNMoney, Maclean’s and Hockey News.

“Media applications drive repeat value to consumers, advertisers and publishers by consistently delivering new content,” said Kunal Gupta, CEO of Polar Mobile. “Contrary to published reports suggesting usage rapidly declines soon after an application is downloaded, Polar Mobile sees usage of our applications increasing over time. Polar Mobile applications are engaging and easy to use, so consumers visit them every day and our customers gain an important brand- and community-building tool on a take-everywhere device.”

Polar Mobile enables businesses such as magazine publishers, television networks, sports teams and other organizations that build communities to harness the rapid changes in the communications landscape. Although the Newspaper Association of America found that traditional print and online ad sales dropped precipitously in the first half of 2009, losing nearly $5.5 billion or roughly 29 percent from the same period in 2008, another major avenue for readership and revenue is opening in mobile.

Mobile phones are becoming increasingly more capable with larger screens, easier navigation and input mechanisms, more memory and the ability to access faster networks. High speed data networks are nearly ubiquitous across North America, Europe and Asia, and the cost of data plans are dropping worldwide. An August 2009 report from the industry research firm Gartner Group finds that smartphones represent the fastest growing segment in mobile, surpassing 40 million new devices sold in Q2 2009, an increase of 27 percent over the same period in 2008. Once perceived as a business tool, devices like the newest BlackBerry smartphones and iPhones, now more affordable than smartphones of the past, are regarded as “lifestyle” devices and used by consumers of all ages. Designed to be engaging and intuitive, Polar Mobile applications are transforming the relationship between publishers and millions of their customers.

TIME Magazine mobile app on a BlackBerry Storm“There is no question that publications like TIME Magazine require a robust mobile presence.” said John Paris, director of mobile products at Time Inc., publisher of TIME Magazine. “Though TIME Magazine’s mobile apps launched by Polar Mobile for BlackBerry and iPhone smartphones are still relatively new, early data justifies our investment in mobile content. Not even 2 months old, TIME’s mobile apps already topped more than 200,000 users and have been opened well over a million times. The average user opens the TIME mobile app at least once every four days. But what is most exciting to us is the social networking implications as we see thousands of articles posted to Twitter, Delicious or sent to users’ friends via email.”

Polar Mobile’s SMART content and advertising mobile platform easily extends online content to mobile devices such as BlackBerry, iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile smartphones through native applications. SMART not only allows media companies to launch custom-branded mobile applications suited to their audiences, but also provides tools for advertising and analytics. Polar Mobile customers are realizing click through rates as much as 15 times greater than they do via the Web. Applications built on Polar Mobile’s SMART platform not only extend the reach of brands into this explosive mobile marketplace, they also create entirely new, predictable and dependable revenue streams.

Polar Mobile applications are tailored for its customers’ specific audiences. For example, the recently-launched application built for BusinessWeek not only gives users top global business news and market analysis, users can also set up personalized watch lists and create customized channels that organize the news as they want to read it. The Toronto Maple Leafs launched applications that deliver fans the latest news, scores, standings, player data and team schedules. The Food Network Canada not only offers users of its mobile app a daily recipe, seasonal recipes and cooking tips but also cooking videos from its hosts.

Consumers will find most applications available for free. A complete list of the more than 50 and growing Polar Mobile applications can be found at http://www.polarmobile.com/html/mobileapps/.

About Polar Mobile
Polar Mobile’s SMARTTM content and advertising mobile platform provides publishers, brands and advertisers tools to deliver, measure and monetize digital media on mobile devices including BlackBerry, iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile smartphones. With its proven track record for compelling personalized content and feature-rich mobile applications, Polar Mobile is the choice of major brands such as BusinessWeek, TIME Magazine, and the Hockey News for putting sports, finance, news and entertainment into their audiences’ hands. Polar Mobile has offices in Toronto and New York and can be found on the Web at www.polarmobile.com.

Smartphone Application Development Can Be a Breeze

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Cascada Mobile’s Breeze Platform makes rich mobile application development for iPhone and Android easy for web developers

Cascada Mobile

Mobile application development pioneer, Cascada Mobile, today announced iPhone and Android support for its popular Breeze mobile development platform, adding to its existing support for BlackBerry and Nokia smartphones. Now developers and publishers can use the Breeze Platform to easily create and distribute rich mobile applications that work on billions of mobile phones around the world, including iPhones and Android handsets, without having to rewrite their apps for each individual platform.

iPhone Restaurant Finder application made with BreezeUsing Cascada Mobile’s Breeze Platform, even the most novice web programmers and content publishers can write innovative rich mobile applications that can be installed on phones and sold in app stores. The Breeze Platform eliminates the enormous cost and complexities of writing mobile applications for thousands of different handset models and provides developers a one-stop shop for distribution across hundreds of wireless operators worldwide.

The combination of smartphones and useful and entertaining mobile applications has sparked a technology revolution, changing the way that consumers interact with and use their mobile phones. Downloads from all app stores will reach 6.67 billion applications by 2014, up from two billion this year, according to market research firm Frost & Sullivan. As of August this year the Apple App Store boasted more than one billion downloads with 65,000 mobile apps available. Most smartphone users (62 percent) download one to five applications per month, and the share of iPhone users in the same category is even higher, at 82 percent, according to Goldman Sachs.

In parallel, analysts are predicting aggressive growth of the smartphone market, despite the handsets’ typically higher price tags. Juniper Research forecasts that by 2013 the smartphone sector will account for 23 percent of all new handsets sold each year. According to research from Gartner, 40 million smartphones were sold worldwide in the second quarter of 2009, a 27 percent gain from the same period last year. Research from In-Stat forecasts more than 100 million app store compatible mobile phones from multiple manufacturers will be shipping within five years.

“There is certainly a boom in mobile apps, and the Breeze Platform lets developers and content publishers easily break into the smartphone mobile application arena with little to no risk,” said Alan Lysne, Cascada Mobile CEO. “With Breeze, developers can create mobile apps that will work on iPhones, Android devices, BlackBerry smartphones, as well as Java-based feature phones, without rewriting for each platform, so their development efforts don’t have to be locked to a single specific device. This multi-device approach is as close to ‘write once’ as you can get in the mobile space, letting developers and content publishers appeal to the broadest set of potential customers while giving their current and future users the freedom to migrate applications as they buy new devices.”

iPhone Twitter client made with BreezeBreeze takes code written in HTML, JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets and automatically converts it into installed apps on each device. Breeze created applications can run on hundreds of different mobile phone types without the need to create multiple device-specific custom builds. Developers receive a simple line of HTML code they can put on their websites, blogs or social network pages so users can download Breeze-built mobile applications simply by entering their mobile phone number.

Cascada Mobile Connects Polar Mobile to Larger User Base

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Polar Mobile extends service to millions of potential customers with Cascada Mobile Breeze

Cascada Mobile today announced a partnership with Polar Mobile to utilize Cascada’s Breeze mobile development platform to quickly and easily extend the reach of Polar Mobile’s platform beyond smart phones to Java-based mobile phones.  The first Breeze-built mobile app will be for The Hockey News, a leading hockey publication.

With Cascada Mobile’s Breeze platform, developers can create mobile apps in as little as 15 minutes that can take full advantage of the functions and features of mobile phones and smart phones – from the address book to the camera. Breeze-built mobile applications are tested and ported to operate on hundreds of different device makes and models as well as hundreds of networks around the globe, making Breeze-created applications available and ready to run on billions of phones worldwide.

“Polar Mobile has been tremendously successful offering publishers an easy way to get their mobile content to their readers,” said Alan Lysne, CEO, Cascada Mobile. “Our platform lets them offer mobile content to ‘feature phone’ users, enabling them to reach a completely new audience. The first mobile app is a version of The Hockey News, a publication dedicated to hockey fans.”

Media publishers globally are working with Polar Mobile’s proprietary push-publishing platform to effectively extend their brands to mobile phones. Through device-based applications that users download over the air directly to their mobile phone, users have access to content from their favorite publications much faster than browsing through traditional mobile websites.

“Offering fresh content from leading publishers to customers via platforms such as BlackBerry and iPhone has been tremendously successful for us,” said Kunal Gupta, CEO, Polar Mobile. “We recognize the large market outside smart phones that we want to reach and our partnership with Cascada allows us to do exactly that.”

The application will be free to download for users and will provide a new channel for advertisers that seamlessly works with Polar Mobile’s platform. SMS ‘cmap get hockey’ to 32075 to download the application to your feature phone.

Mincom to Launch Mobility Solution for Asset Intensive Business

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Mincom selects Dexterra mobile platform and applications to power its new mobility solutions enabling organizations to increase productivity, improve safety and lower costs

DENVER, COLO. – November 19, 2008

Mincom, a leading global provider of software solutions and services for asset intensive industries, today announced plans to launch a mobility solution designed to meet the needs of asset intensive organizations across industries including mining, utilities, public infrastructure, defense and transport.

The company has selected the Dexterra mobility platform as the underlying mobility technology to extend and deploy its purpose-built applications for asset management to mobile workers.

This strategic initiative for Mincom is an extension of the current technology platform that will deliver a fully integrated end-to-end solution mobilizing asset management and critical businesses processes.

Asset intensive organizations have much more complex mobile solution needs than most other businesses.  Often the majority of their workforce is deployed to manage assets in environments that can be subject to extreme conditions such as in mines or emergency response situations. Mincom will deliver a solution that provides the communications flexibility, reliability and unique capabilities they require.

Delivering enterprise solutions for asset intensive businesses, Mincom supports a diverse range of customers throughout the world, including, Australian Defence Force, Toronto Hydro, Ergon, Energex, Xstrata Copper, Newmont Mining Corporation, Metronet (London Underground) and Scottish Power.

Mincom’s mobility solution will be based on the new Dexterra Concert Enterprise Edition and Dexterra Field Service Suite which includes schedule and dispatch, work order lifecycle management and location-based asset and resource tracking. Together with Mincom’s industry and domain expertise, the solution delivers purpose-built asset management applications that mobilize best practice processes in asset management and integrates directly to Ellipse, the company’s Enterprise Asset Management platform as well as other leading ERP platforms including SAP and Oracle.

BENEFITS FOR MINCOM CUSTOMERS
  • Mincom customers also benefit from the ease in extending this mobility solution to other critical business processes such as sales force automation, customer relationship management, procurement and customer support through the use of pre-built standards-based technology, database and application adapters for mobile integration that facilitate rapid integration with virtually all back-office systems.
  • A key advantage is the solution requires minimal integration so time to benefits for customers is significantly reduced.
  • This is timely given today’s economic environment and the need to drive quick return on investment while reducing overall costs quickly and measurably.
QUOTES

Greg Clark, chief executive officer at Mincom:

“Mincom customers are asset intensive businesses, highly reliant on field workers to operate, manage and maintain mission critical assets. Asset failure in a mining organization, for example, can equate to millions of dollars lost in just hours of production downtime.”

“Our new solution extends Mincom’s SOA-based technology platform to mobilize asset management and other critical business processes, helping our global customers reduce downtime, increase productivity and efficiency, improve safety and lower overall capital expense and operating costs.”

“It lays the foundation for us to deliver new applications and services over time and provide a single mobility platform for our customers, while reducing their total cost of ownership.”

Roy W. Schulte, of Gartner Inc. in “Using SOA to Achieve Four Design Goals” September 2008:

“An enterprise must be agile enough to change its business processes quickly if it is to respond to fast-changing business conditions and capitalize on new opportunities. Therefore, the information systems supporting the business processes must be capable of changing quickly. Agility, in this case, means being able to reconfigure and extend application systems without rewriting much code or changing the databases when business requirements change. It also means implementing multichannel applications that support desktop, mobile and back-office work simultaneously.”

Michael Liebow, chief executive officer of Dexterra:

“By providing significant domain expertise and a global presence in more than 40 countries, Mincom extends our ability to deliver industry-specific, process-driven mobile applications that are unique to asset intensive businesses. The jointly developed mobility solution for asset management enables existing and new Mincom customers to fully maximize their investment by empowering their workforce with mobile applications that make them as productive in the field as they are in the office. We look forward to working with Mincom to build long-term customer relationships and to set the bar for the kind of results that can only be achieved through business mobility.”
