Cool mobile application for ad enabled calls convinced international jury

Smaato Inc., a pioneering provider for mobile advertising solutions announced today the winner of the Smaato Mobile Advertising Award 2008. San Diego based DialPlus could convince the jury with its application that is showing visual information from the web for a phone number before, during and after a call.

“Congratulations to Dial Plus for their outstanding product and thanks for the jury to select the winning companies. With more than 100 entrants in its first year we could not ask for more positive feedback. We think this is a clear indicator that there is a lot of creativity and positive energy in the mobile ecosystem. The best is yet to come!” stated Harald Neidhardt, CMO & Co-Founder of Smaato Inc.

108 companies participated in the Smaato Award and in the quest for the coolest ad-enabled mobile application, website or game. Smaato organized the award together with Silicon Valley based vator.tv and with the support of the INmobile.org community.

“We are honored to be selected by the judges as the winner of the Smaato Mobile Advertising Award. This is a strong validation of the DialPlus product vision and mobile advertising capabilities,” said Lisa LeVasseur, CEO of DialPlus. “In a very short time, DialPlus has gone from concept to product and become a world class advertising partner.”

DialPlus will receive free booth participation at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and the introduction to four first-class VC partners from the U.S. and Europe.

“DialPlus is the type of company that provides a very simple and useful solution for a problem that is common for cellphone users. I believe this company has the opportunity for wide acceptance, and I personally will be trying out the application,” comments jury member Bambi Francisco (Co-founder & CEO of vator.tv).

Finalist company Aka Aki will receive a special prize for participating with a free booth at the M-Days taking place in January in Munich, Germany – selected by the event organizer. The other finalist companies are: Buzzd, FISHLABS, fring, FunkySexyCool, Peperoni, Qeep, Skout, Tourspot and Vayyoo.

“We are honored to help grow the recognition of young and innovative startups in the mobile advertising space. Together we can make the mobile advertising ecosystem better and enhance the customer experience significantly,” said Ragnar Kruse, CEO & Co-Founder of Smaato Inc.

But the Talkster service differs from using a calling card in two important ways: first, our service is far easier to use from any phone without having to go out and buy a card, and second, Talkster’s Free World Dialing is always free, with no hidden charges. Free Talkster International and Group Conference Calls Just One Click Away with New iPhone Firmware Update

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Talkster’s iPhone-optimized service is now even easier to use with recent enhancements that let callers place the Talkster service icon on the main screen of their phones.

Now iPhone users have an even easier way to make free international, long-distance and group conference calls. With just a single click of an icon from the iPhone’s main screen, you can launch the Talkster service and begin making free calls to friends and family around the world. As always, once you’ve created a Talkster number for a friend or group of friends and saved it in your address book, you need only select them directly from your phone book to place the call.

Follow these easy steps to place the Talkster icon on your iPhone’s main screen:

Step One:
Connect your iPhone to iTunes and update the phone’s firmware to version 1.1.3 (or later).

Step Two:
Open the Safari web browser and surf to http://i.talkster.com.

Step Three:
Click on the new “+” symbol at the bottom of the screen. Once you do, you’ll be presented with three options:

  • Add Bookmark
  • Add to Home Screen
  • Mail Link to this Page

Step Four:
Click on “Add to Home Screen.” You’ll be shown the new Talkster iPhone icon and be able to give it a title (such as “Talkster”) to add to your iPhone’s main screen.

The new 1.1.3 firmware also lets you move the icon around the screen to place it in an order you like. You can find instructions on how to rearrange icons and use more of the new features now available for the iPhone by clicking here and here.

Step Five:
You can repeat steps two and three, but this time select “Mail Link to this Page” to share Talkster with your friends!

iPhone conference calls with Talkster
With traditional iPhone conference calling, the process can be tedious, increasing minute usage and frustration. Conference calls also require iPhone users to pay even higher costs for an international and long-distance connection. With Talkster, users can create a group of up to 5 people, generating a local number each participant in the call. This process is one-time only, and with the new Talkster icon for the iPhone, an easy way to keep in touch.

Ads foot the bill for free calls
Calls with Talkster are free because the service is ad-supported, meaning all calls are subsidized by advertising, much like television and radio. In order to access free long-distance, international, and group conference calling, users listen to a 10-second ad and then are free to talk as long as they like with no talk time limits.

Sign up now

Talkster has several sign-up options for users:

  1. Visit www.Talkster.com from your computer
  2. Visit http://free.talkster.com from any mobile phone browser, or
  3. Visit Talkster’s iPhone optimized site at http://i.talkster.com
  4. Add Talkster’s Free World Dialing Application on social networking site, Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=5439812969&ref=s

Straight Talk from Talkster

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

Answers to consumers’ burning questions about Talkster’s Free World Dialing™

Talkster’s Free World Dialing, the only service offering free long distance, international and group conference calls from any phone on any network, launched at CTIA last Monday where it won Laptop Magazine’s Best Overall Service Award amidst a lot of positive buzz. With many so-called “free” calling offers out there that actually cost money to use, the overwhelming first reaction from people who have tried Talkster’s Free World Dialing is that really free long distance, international and group calls without talk time limits are just too good to be true. Is it too good to be true? In the Q&A below Talkster directly addresses the most common questions being asked about its new service.

Is there a limit to the number of minutes I can talk?

No, there are no limits to the time you can talk for free using Talkster’s Free World Dialing. Listen to a single 10-second audio ad and talk as long as you like — to one friend or up to five people in a Talkster Groups™ call.

Will I ever pay to use Talkster?

All Talkster Free World Dialing calls are supported by advertising offers, so you never have to pay to talk to your friends around the world. We don’t take your credit card number or ask you to deposit money in any way. At Talkster, free actually means free. Completely free.

Is Talkster like “cheap” calling services such as Rebtel?

  • With Talkster there are no limits to the free talk time we offer – Talk as long as you like – for free. Free is a lot less expensive than “cheap.”
  • Talkster doesn’t require that you create an account, ask you for your credit card nor require you to share any personal information to use Free World Dialing, no matter how long you talk – other services do.
  • Talkster Groups lets you arrange conference calls so you can talk to groups of friends around the world for free, too! Your friends can be local or far away, and you will always have one number to reach this group of friends.
  • The Talkster service is ad-supported which means you not only get free calling but you also get the opportunity to opt-in for valuable offers and promotions you won’t find elsewhere
  • There is no bait and switch with Talkster. The same registration-free, no-cost service that we offer you the first time you use Talkster will be the service you can expect every time you place a call. We don’t entice you with a free trial offer then ask you to switch over to a paid service because with Talkster our service is always free.
  • You’ll be impressed with the quality of the calls, too. The networks on some “cheap” calling services make the calls sound like cheap calls. We’ve heard time and again how crystal clear our network is and how good the call quality is. If you don’t believe us, try it – after all, it won’t cost a thing to try Talkster.

Talkster’s Free World Dialing was created for people who have friends or family all over the world but are reluctant to call them because of the expense. Talkster has been in the business of cheap calling offers before, and we learned from our beta tests that people aren’t looking for just cheap calls. Based on the feedback we received in our beta test and from the international calling community, we designed Talkster’s Free World Dialing with a commitment to a fully sustainable ad-supported free calling business model.

Our competitors may offer some stuff for free, but in order to sustain their business model they
