RGB Enables Cable Operators to Cost-Effectively Deliver New Services to All Three Screens
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana– MobilityWire® – October 18, 2010
Here in its booth at Cable-Tec Expo 2010 (#2025), RGB Networks, the leader in network video processing, is demonstrating how cable television operators can use RGB’s innovative solutions to deploy advanced “three screen” services seamlessly to TVs, PCs and mobile devices, while generating more advertising revenue by inserting ads across all devices.
“Three screen services are not just the latest industry buzzwords, but represent a tremendous opportunity for cable operators to expand their service offerings and to generate new revenues,” said Nabil Kanaan, Senior Director of Product Marketing at RGB Networks. “While many equipment providers tout their three screen products, only RGB’s solutions combine the stream processing density and advanced transcoding capabilities necessary for operators to scale small trials into network-wide deployments easily, quickly and cost-effectively to meet growing subscriber demand.”
The three screen demonstration, highlighting a TV Everywhere scenario, is powered by RGB’s award-winning Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMGTM), the most comprehensive multi-screen solution available to operators today. Attendees will see programming being transcoded from MPEG-2 for simultaneous delivery to an H.264 set-top box, an iPad, iPhone and a laptop. They will also witness ads being seamlessly inserted into the programming and delivered across the multiple screens in real time.
Complementing the VMG, RGB will also highlight its new Application Media Server (AMS), a transcoding and transport packaging appliance ideal for the delivery of live and on-demand programming to mobile devices. It supports file-based on-demand transcoding (ODT), live-stream processing and file-to-file transcoding, which are key to processing programs into the codecs required for mobile, Internet and IPTV video. In conjunction with its comprehensive transcoding capabilities, the AMS uniquely supports integrated adaptive streaming and progressive download, as well as leading smart phone delivery protocols, which are critical for delivering programming to mobile devices. The combination of the VMG and AMS creates the first-ever distributed transcoder/packager architecture that leverages scalable IP multicast networks in the core network and HTTP or streaming content delivery network (CDN) architecture at the edge, giving operators a flexible transition path to a TV Everywhere environment.
Also at Cable-Tec, RGB will demonstrate the digital overlay capabilities of its widely-deployed Broadcast Network Processor (BNP). Through the use of static graphics and motion text, operators can deploy many addressable applications, including targeted advertising, operator alerts and Emergency Alert System (EAS) notifications, providing new revenue opportunities, as well as helping them to meet government regulations. In combination with the BNP’s advanced transrating, statistical multiplexing, grooming and ad insertion capabilities, it is a powerful video processing solution in a compact form factor.
