Multi-Screen Demonstration Highlights High-capacity Transcoding and Ad Insertion on TV, PC, iPad, iPhone and Android Devices
SUNNYVALE, Calif.– MobilityWire® – June 9, 2011
RGB Networks, the leader in high-capacity multi-screen video delivery, will demonstrate how cable television operators can deliver advanced multi-screen video services and advertising seamlessly and cost-effectively to TVs, PCs, tablets and other mobile devices at its booth (#1106) at The Cable Show in Chicago, June 14-16. RGB’s award-winning Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG™)—the industry’s only carrier-class platform for multi-screen video delivery—will power the demonstration, in conjunction with RGB’s flexible adaptive streaming solution the TransAct Packager. This flexible pair offers the most scalable solution available for deployment of advanced IP video services to any device, enabling operators to go straight from trial to deployment.
“Cable operators and their competitors are racing to offer multi-screen ‘TV Everywhere’ services composed of both live and on-demand programming, however in order to succeed, they must transition to IP-based video delivery and utilize a platform that will easily grow with their needs,” said Ramin Farassat, Vice President, Product Marketing and Business Development for RGB Networks. “At The Cable Show we will demonstrate how cable operators can beat the competition by deploying RGB’s highly scalable Video Multiprocessing Gateway to quickly and cost-effectively deploy video services and ads to any device without overhauling their existing video delivery and ad insertion infrastructure.”
Working as an integrated solution, RGB’s VMG and TransAct Packager will power the multi-screen demonstration in which the same program is simultaneously delivered to a TV, PC, Apple and Android-based tablets and an iPhone. In this demonstration, the VMG will transcode an MPEG-2 encoded program into the more bandwidth-efficient MPEG-4/H.264 format better suited for delivery over the Internet, wireless and other unmanaged networks. The TransAct Packager will then ingest these programs and create multiple versions of each encoded at different bit rates which are then packaged in the Apple HTTP Live Streaming, Microsoft Smooth Streaming and Adobe HTTP Dynamic Streaming formats to ensure a ‘picture perfect’ display on the various devices.
The modular VMG is engineered specifically for advanced video processing applications for both MPEG-4/H.264-based multi-screen services and more traditional MPEG-2-based services. It delivers industry-leading transcoding, transrating, ad insertion and re-coding performance in a highly integrated configuration. The VMG’s MPEG-2-to-MPEG-4/H.264 transcoding capability makes it an integral part of a complete multi-screen solution, and its exceptional capacity, scalability and reliability make it ideal for large-scale deployments. The VMG is also a compelling solution for operators’ current MPEG-2 requirements, such as transcoding MPEG-4/H.264 streams into MPEG-2 and downconverting HD programs to SD resolutions.
RGB’s TransAct Packager is an advanced adaptive streaming solution that complements the exceptional transcoding performance of the VMG, enabling cable operators to cost-effectively deliver programming of the highest quality to the PCs, tablets, mobile devices and Internet-connected set-top boxes of millions of viewers.
