Demonstration shows how cable operators can improve subscribers’ Quality of Experience through quick identification of service-affecting issues
Mixed Signals, the leading provider of digital content monitoring solutions, and Capella Telecommunications, a leading value-added reseller to Canadian cable operators, are demonstrating the latest features of Mixed Signals’ award-winning Sentry® content monitoring solution to attendees here at the first Canadian SCTE Summit.
The demonstrations will take place in Capella’s stand and will provide an in-depth overview of the advanced capabilities of Sentry, most notably its new Perceptual Scoring System and advanced reporting capabilities.
Sentry’s new Perceptual Scoring System is the first solution of its kind to enable video service providers to accurately determine the severity of video and audio glitches as they occur and precisely how these errors affect viewers’ quality of experience (QoE). The real-time, 24/7 system detects, tracks, reports and determines the subscriber impact of the three most serious video errors – video tiling, black and frozen screen – simultaneously in hundreds of high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) programs in either MPEG-2 or MPEG-4/H.264. The system can determine which type of error is occurring, on which programs, where on the subscriber’s screen the error is occurring and its duration. This unprecedented amount of specific information allows operators to determine the errors that require immediate attention to preserve subscriber satisfaction. Additionally, operational expenses are dramatically reduced as the information allows operators to more quickly pinpoint the source of the error, rather than waste time blindly investigating all possible causes.
Complementing the Perceptual Scoring System are the advanced reporting capabilities that have been added to Sentry, which provide engineers and executive staff alike with the information most relevant to them. With its comprehensive monitoring abilities, Sentry can identify literally thousands of anomalies – from irrelevant ‘blips’ to major issues – every day. Sentry’s new reporting capabilities allow each user to customize the system to provide as much or as little information as often as required, from monthly high level reports for executive staff to immediate notices for technicians as incidents occur.
“Canadian cable operators have a well-deserved reputation for advancing the state-of-the-art in cable technology and for providing superior service to their subscribers,” said Eric Conley, CEO of Mixed Signals. “We have significant customers in the Canadian market who understand the operational cost savings our solution provides. With a well-regarded, in-country partner like Capella, we will expand our relationships in the market.”
“Monitoring and troubleshooting can become overwhelming tasks for cable operators managing hundreds of programs” said Gord Langdon of Capella Telecommunications Inc. “The Mixed Signals Sentry product family helps operators identify and isolate problems before customers notice, allowing them to focus resources on solving problems effectively. It’s a ‘NOC in a box’. Capella is proud to represent Mixed Signals in Canada.”
Mixed Signals will be presenting along with Capella Telecommunications at stand #33 at the first-ever SCTE Canadian Summit.
